How to photograph a bore

On my M1 Garand, the barrel is so shine, I can't get a picture of the bore. All I get is a bright spot that looks like a miniature headlight. I have used 3 different bore lights and that's all I get. I even folded a piece of TP (8 sheets thick) and put it in front of the bore light and couldn't get a good photo.
I have seen some excellent bore pictures on GB auctions.
How do you do it?

The bore lights are too bright for the scale of brightness that the camera can accept.
Two things to consider:
Use a reflected lighted light source into the receiver rather than the direct light of a bore light. You will need to put the camera on a tripod or a stable platform because the exposure will be longer.
Move your camera off to one side slightly which eliminates the direct light of the bore light. Then switch to the opposite side to show another view.
Best.
I placed a white piece of paper on the face of the bolt and shined the bore light on the paper.
It worked!
I was getting frustrated after taking about 25 shots and getting the "headlight".
Thank you again
