My neighbor asks: If "Joe" in FL sells his 30-30 to "Bill" in WA, can he mail it directly, or does it have to go thru an FFL? Thanks in advance!

    Interstate transfer of firearms HAS to go though an FFL.

    Hedog is correct. I just didnt have enough detail in mine.

    In some states you can buy a long gun from an FFL dealer in a state not your own (face to face sale and you are visiting another state) and you can take that long gun home after the 4473 clears. That cannot be done with handguns, and all interstate shipments of any affected firearms (not black powder in most states) must go though an FFL, either a dealer or a C&R FFL to his own collection if the firearm is eligible.

    ship it to a FFL only legal way to do it.
