Custom Walnut Stock

I am curious as to the cost of having a new custom walnut stock made. I am not looking for anything overly fancy, but would like it to have decent hand-cut checkering, possibly a rosewood tip, monte carlo w/cheekpiece, etc. It wouldn't have to have a lot of grain, etc. In fact the stocks I like the most are those with no grain and really light colored with a very flat, "matte" finish. Any ideas or websites to check out. What about price??

That sounds like a factory stock. Custom stocks are usually about bespoke fitting, extreme cast on or cast off, and most often about fine wood with lots of grain. You will spend a lot for having a plain wood stock made, it might be a good idea to start with aftermarket drop-in stocks, like Boyd's: http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/ Other wise I would expect you will be looking at $450 and up. Custom rifles start at about $2500.

I really like Boyds, and I just bought a nice semi finished stock set for an 1100 from a company called Gunstocks Inc. thats pretty nice.

A buddy of mine waited 3 years for a custom rifle to be made up for him by a name rifle smith. He supplied the action and the smith barreled it and tricked it out for accuracy and whatnot. That part ran about a grand and was done in about six months. The total price tag ran $2500, so that put the stock at $1500 and 2 1/2 years of wait. They used a $500 stock blank so you can do the math. He recieved it about 2 years back so the price may have gone up or down since then. Good luck with what ever you choose to go for......

...Unless you know someone to "hook you up", as the Dog said, Boyds is a good Co. and keep a sharp eye out as they have some bang up deals at times on thier "blimished" stocks; seen a couple of thier blimished/dinged stocks and I have no idea where/what the ding was, in other words insignificant. Boyd's has a big selection of harder to find older stocks too...[;)]
