1897 rebuild?

does anyone make a complete kit for an 1897 shotgun?

it seems now if there is a problem with yours you have to scrounge around for another used old part, does anyone make an all-inclusive parts kit so to speak, similar to like an ar lower reciever repair kit or anything. i would like to have all the parts i need on hand and i think that would be a good market for cowboy action shooters as im sure there are alot of guns out there that have absolutly "had" it and need almost all parts housed in the reciever replace to make it functional again.

anyone?

Numrich has lots of 97 parts, they don't have a "kit" pesay, but they do have all the parts. www.GunParts.com Give Bert H the serial number and the specifics, he is doing research on Winchester history, see stickys at the top of the page.

You are correct... I haven't specifically listed the Model 1897 yet, but I am conducting a survey on them none-the-less. I suppose I should add another Sticky.

    1. Serial number (including the letter series)
    2. Gauge
    3. Barrel length (e.g. 20", 26", 28", 30" , or 32")
    4. Choke (e.g. Full, Mod, or Cyl)
    5. Butt plate type (e.g. smooth steel, checkered steel, hard rubber, or composition)
    6. Style of pistol grip
    7. Solid frame or Take Down
    8. Variation (e.g. Field, Trap, Pigeon, Brush, Tournament, Riot, or Trench Gun)
    9. Exact marking on the slide bar

With the serial number, I can give you the exact (accurate) year of manufacture, as I have a copy of the Serialization records that include the entire production run.

Go over to the BP/SASS forum. They know what parts to concentrate on with regards to "need to have". You may be surprised that only one, or two parts may be needed as a backup.

If your gun is in need of an overhaul, the SASS people know a few, very few recommended '97 smiths. Remember, they [SASS] are putting a lot of mileage on their '97's..and know where to go, (and who to avoid) for a '97 "tuneup". Best, Joe
