Anyone own a Stoeger Condor Competition?

Does anyone know anything about the quality of Stoeger Condor Competition shotguns? I have been shooting trap with an 870 wingmaster and have been looking to make a step up. I can't afford to spend $1,500.00 on a gun and $599.00 for a Stoeger is in my price range. Any information will be helpfull.

Thanks
Mark Anderson

    Grain,

I have a Stoeger Condor (not competition model) and I have been pleased with it. The competition model appears to be a nice gun with the adjusteable comb, palm swell, and ported barrels and you are very right it is about half the price of most of the more popular models.

If you are serious about shooting I think you some find a gun that feels comfortable and fits you. If you pay $599.00 for the gun and it does not shoulder well or does not give you a good sight picture then in my opinion you have wasted your money.

As far as the gun it seems that you are getting a lot of the high end features such as the ones I listed above for less money and from my experience with my Stoeger I think it is a nice shotgun if it works for you.

As far as the Remington 870 I have broken a hundred straight several times shooting skeet with an 870 and several years ago that was the gun to have. Nothing wrong with what you have just a little more elbow action

Thanks for the info swatcop33. I looked at one at Gander Mountain and it seems to fit me well. The guy behind the counter let me adjust the comb and I was able to get a good line of sight in a comfortable position. I have to hold my 870 kind of high on my shoulder and evey now and then the recoil makes the stock slide up into my cheek bone and it hurts. Have there been any mechanical issues or misfires that you know of?

Thanks for the reply surekill. I just got back into the sport and I'm shooting about a case of shells a week and haven't had any mechanical issues with my 870 unless I fire Federal ammo, I get an average of 1.5 shells per case that jam on me, the 870 just doesn't fit me right for trap shooting. It's a great field gun but the Stoeger felt good for repetetive shooting and apeared to be solidly manufactured.

If money is a real issue (personaly I'd save up another $4-500 and buy a used BT-99), why not simply put a trap style stock on your 870? If it (which ever gun you use) fits you don't need the adjustment features.

I started with the same shotgun and used a couple of turkey chokes
so I could reach out farther.I used gun for a couple of years a register shoots with NO PROBLEMS. My son used it after I purchased a
Remington 3200 so I say buy it and don't get caught up it trapshooting snobs of buying expensive gun.I use to get a kick out of shooting in a squad with $100,000 worth of of firearms and watch
them gripe over a miss.I was there for fun!

The Condors have had problems with failure to fire or firing when the the action locks. Scary stuff in the field!!! I would invest less cash into a Trap bbl and stocks for your 870 and have something reliable.

I have heard that the condor's firing pin can actually crack and break. Is this true?
