Picked up a S&W M&P revolver I believe to be a victory model although not V marked. 38 S&W ctg, 5 inch bbl, most likely sent overseas during WWII. Serial number is 843765. Any idea of the date range of manufacture?
Thanks.

The pre Victory Models were bought by the British. Starting at around 750,000, in 1940. Smith started cranking them out big time. Because the brits lost a lot of their equipment, in France after Dunkirk.

My WAG is that your revolver dates to 1941. The actual Victory Models started shipping in early 1942. When the serial number range of the pre Victory Models hit 1,000,000.

If you want the actual date. You will have to get a Smith letter. I believe they are up to $100, nowadays.

Thanks rufe-snow. I'm not inclined to pay for a letter, a WAG is good enough. Thanks!
