Could anyone offer a best guess on old a couple of brass shells would be?
One is head stamped UMC Co No. 12. The other is stamped Winchester No. 12.

They existed before the war - likely nearly as long as brass cartridge guns.
added Mid 1870's on.
What you have would be whatever the scrap value of brass would be.
I've seen these sell at gun shows for about $2 ea.
I wish I had seen them, all I see they are asking $5 each.
