o.k. guys, I want to buy an ak-47. I know there is chinese, russian, romanian etc. Which ones are good and bad and which ones should a person stay away from as far as quality. Is there really a difference in the post ban other than no flash hider and bayonet lug. In New York now (10/01) if you can find one in a gun store, they are romanian going for $399, sounds kind of high. Thanks in advance

If you can afford it and can find one, buy a Bulgarian. The overall finish is superior to the others and they have that great AK-47 reliability and functionality about them. I'd avoid the Egyptian. I have been told by their owners that they can be problematic. I don't like to buy Chinese just out of prinicple. I owned a Chinese AK once and the stock wasn't fit properly and it actually wiggled a bit. My personal belief is that the best cross between functionality and price is the Romanian. They aren't always pretty like the Bulgarian but they are good shooters.
