Can anyone suggest a website where one can compare the features, ratings, etc. of semi-auto pistols? Unfortunately, Consumer Reports doesn't offer this service!

Not sure about a comparison website, but I've been looking for people's opinions about the Bulgarian Makarov 9mm. Thinking of buying one for just over $100, but seems to good to be true at that price...what's the catch?? Opinions welcome. You're shopping...any thoughts??

rrdtad-Just keep in mind when comparing the Maks to other "9mm" pistol that the Mak is 9mm Makarov NOT 9mm Luger.BIG difference. The Mak (9x18) is a low pressure round that is used on blowback pistols, just slightly mmore powerful than the .380 ACP, or 9mm short (9x17).The 9mm Luger (9x19) is generally chambered in pistols that use a locked breach. More expensive to make, but needed for the pressure of the round. Yes there are some blowback 9mm pistol, but the slide has to be so heavy that it's a better brick than a pistol! Also, the 9mm Mak uses a larger bullet then the .380 or 9mm Luger. On the plus side, the Mak is a good weapon, but too underpowered and heavy for my tastes.

oldsoldier-No site I know of. There are so many different 9mms, that the best way to narrow the field is to list what you want the gun for. Is it to be a target pistol (Sig 210 is great!), a CCW weapon (Kahr, KelTech, Taurus, S&W, Glock, ...), or a house gun (i.e. full sized pistol)? Are you comfortable with a SA action, DA-only, or will a DA/SA meet your needs? Then we get into high capacity v. 10 single stack issues. How much can you afford to pay? Setting a price limit will make things easier (no Sig 210 after all!).Tell us your criteria and price range, and you'll get a few good ideas from here. Then, do some research on your own. Hit the web sites and get the specs on the pistols. Visit a gun shop that carries some of the possibilities and see how they feel in your hand. Go to a range and rent some 9mms. After all, no advice, advertisment, or recommendation can tell what will fit in your hand and feel right. You have to make the decision based on what is 'shootable' for you, which pistol fits you (close your eyes and aim at a target. open you eyes. Is the pistol pointing at the target, high, or maybe low?) and points for you.Just because Joe Smith down the street loves his Glock and hits the X ring every shot doesn't mean that it will fit you or that you will like that plastic pistol. I mean, I have a Star B 1911 clone in 9mm Luger that is inexpensive, easy to shoot and control, but you may not be comfortable with a 'cocked and locked' gun, or it might be too large for your purposes.Hope this gives you something to think about.
