Whats a decent price for a concealed carry class? I want to give the class to someone as a present but don't want to get ripped off.

I know that I am asking for trouble, but here goes. I often see a 9m recommended as the minimum power needed for a concealed carry weapon and more would be better to ensure you can put the bad guy down with one shot. I disagree. As a civilian,I need only enough power to persuade him to look elsewhere for a victim. A cop needs all the power he can handle because he has to go after the bad guy. I have found no expert that reconizes the difference in the mission requirement. Maybe that is because most gun experts come from a police or milertary background.

I am looking for a good handgun for concealed carry, I have been looking at some of the smaller sized glocks, or maybe a small frame S&W .357 magnum revolver. But I dont know which one to pick, anyone know what the best one is, not just out of these two, but out of any gun out there.

In response to the topic below, I have carried concealed for many years. I have tried subnose S&W 60 dehorned (not bad), compact 45's (heavy loaded), Kel Tec 9mm (great if using a belt holster) and many others. I live in Florida so there are not many times I wear a jacket or vest, therefore the firearm has to be concealed in my pants, under a shirt or an ankle holster. I always found myself either uncomfortable or finding excuses not to carry. I have gone to a Kel Tec .380 in a wallet type holster that I made myself and for me, this is the best solution by far. Weight and size is similar to a wallet and it prints on my back pocket like a wallet. I know that if the need arises to use this firearm, I will wish I had more gun but the fact that I will be more likely to have it with me outweighs other considerations. Paraphrased quote from someone: "The best gun to have in a fight is the one you have with you"

I'm wondering what folks consider some of the best concealed carry guns. As with most people now days, money is an issue. I'd like something small and reliable that gives the most bang for the buck.

i live in kansas which it looks like concealed carry will be accepted as of july 1. i have been looking at two different handguns and i just cant decide on which to get. i have been shooting a para ord nite hawg and kimber's new ultra carry. both are fine weapons. the carrying capacity of the hawg is 10 rounds and the kimber is 7 rounds. i am confident enough in my shooting abilities that the 10 vs. 7 round issue is not a big enough one to make me pick one side or the other. which one would you trust your wife and kids life on, while keeping you fairly comfortable as far as carry is concerned?

If you wanted a good all around pistol that was small enough to used as a conceal carry weapon, what would it be. I have looked at both the Sprigfield XD and the Taurus millenium. Any other suggestions? Price is a factor.

#72Go to the website: http://www.packing.org/state/wisconsin/ It has a good state by state informational website about everything you'll want to know about Concealed Carry Permits. How to get one for your state, who to see, what numbers to call, etc. Also it will tell you which states will honor your CCW permit. It looks that Wisconsin doesn't allow CCW permits, but I have heard that if your state will not issue Concealed Carry Permits, then you can go to Texas and get one. This is something I have read in the www.packing.org website: "Texas will issue Conceal Handgun License to anyone who lives in another state that does not issue CCW license. i.e. about seven states including New Mexico, Illinois, Missiouri. (I've heard of a Texas politician who is helping people from states farther away to get their Texas permit, as the "close state" policy is not law, just policy, and not "enforcable")"You may want to call the Texas Attorney General to find if this is true or may apply to you (512) 463-2100. Hope this helps.- Poker_Fish

It might be worthwhile for me. I could pick-up 6 more states that I would be legal in.

Back up boys. You must either own property in Texas, be a full tme student in Texas, or prove you travel and spend at least 6 months a year in Texas to get a Texas Permit. Even then, you have to pass the other 22 qualifications and an FBI background check. They don't just pass them out to non-residents.

Maybe not. Go to the website that poker_fish suggested and find out what permits Wisconsin honors. Then check those states and see if the will give license's to non residents. If so, do it. All I'm saying is you can't get a Texas permit without meeting other qualifications. Wisconsin does not have a reciprocity agreement with Texas, and according to the "Traveler's Guide to the Firearm Laws of the Fifty States" by J. Scott Kappas, Wisconsin does not offer reciprocty to any other state. Check out your Attorney General of Wisconsin at (608) 266 1221 to see if any laws have recently changed.

I know that in Indiana you don't need a conceal carry permit to carry an "antique" (pre-1899) or a muzzel loading pistol. There's tons of antique pistols out there. Better then nothing.
