Just wondering what people's experiences with these rifles have been like. I'm trying to decide between the two, any hints on everything from kick to expenses to ease of maintenence would be appreciated. I'm buying one or the other tomorrow, please help me decide which one. Thanks.-nick

I 've got some of each, all things being equal such as condition, bore, cost, etc. I would go with the Turk. They are both fine old shooters but I personally just like the Mauser action better. Either way they are both lots of fun to shoot and surplus ammo is very reasonably priced.

If there is a large selection to choose from, I would go with the Mauser, in that with these guns, bore condition is everything. With a large rack to choose from you should be able to find one with a good bore. If there are only a few guns to choose from, go with the one with the best bore, even if a Mosin. Both are great guns, but I find the Mauser bolt a bit smoother, the gun more accurate, and ammo cheaper. On the other hand, a Turk Mauser will set you back $40-$80, depending on condition, if you order direct or buy retail, etc. For the same $80 (or perhaps a bit more, in the $100 range) you could get an unissued Mosin. My advice, get both.
