OK...forgive me if this is a repeat. I just wrote this a few minutes ago, but for some reason it isn't showing up on the message board. Not sure why. Interested in opinions on the Makarov 9mm. Seems like a lot of gun for the money. Have a friend who has one, and he loves it. Opinion welcome...Thanx

The Makarov is a solid performer, especially for the money. If you are considering a small pistol in 9mmMak, you really should check out the Hungarian PA-63. It's a PPK clone that is also a very good choice, slimmer than the Mak's.

What about the Bulgarian Mak? That's the model I'm looking at, for $110. As good as the Russian model???

I currently own four Maks (Chinese, Miltex SE, Russian Comm., & Bulgie milsup). Of the four the Bulgie milsup has the best SA trigger and the heaviest DA trigger. Finish and DA trigger go to the Chinese. Worst in all catagorys the Russian Commercial. Best all around Bulgarian Miltex SE. The Miltex SE and the Chinese have become collectors items so see little service. Bulgie milsup is my ccw piece loaded with a mix of cor-bon HP's and 109 gr FMJ. If you can find any Mak other than a Russian Commercial w/adj sights for under $180.00 OTD grab it and runas you won't regret it. Good Luck.SgtMaj13USMC(Ret)

Interesting info. on the Makarov. I always thought that everything Russian is better, compared to versions and copies from other countries. I guess this only applies to the SKS. I've always wanted a Makarov, particularly the Bulgie. The trouble is, living in CA., the only ones on the approved list are the PA-63 (not really a Mak.) and the hard-to-find East German. The way around this, as many of you know, is to find a current owner in CA. and do a private party transfer. I've searched far and wide for a CA. Bulgie owner willing to sell, to no avail. Here's my question. I recently found a local dealer selling a Russian on consignment for $280. I almost bought it, thinking that the Russian would be the best Makarov. What is it exactly that makes it inferior to the others? Reliability, fit and finish? By the way, any opinions on the FEG PA-63? They are disgustingly cheap and readily available. Thanks!

I disagree that the Russian Mak is not good. I have two and they perform excellent. They are the best
    the rest are just jealous!!

Tad, I would give my right arm to take advantage of the SOG's deal on the bulgie. The trouble is, since it's not on the CA approved list, they can't ship it in and no FFL will accept. Sucks!
