Beretta 92 question...

Looking at the front of the beretta (barrel pointing at you), i see that the barrel of the gun is not aligned center to the opening hole of the slide. Also, from most other semis i see, the barrel of the gun do not pass the slide opeining like the 92fs. My question is does the protruding barrel and the fact that there's "slack" between the barrel and the frontal opening of the slide affect the barrel lock up in an adverse way? In other words, is there alot of deviation from the barrel positioning in relation with the slide-opening each time a bullet is shot? I feel if there is, aim would obviously be really wrecked.[This message has been edited by hluuci (edited 10-28-2001).]

If I understand your question, what you are seeing in the front of the slide is the relief necessary to allow the barrel to be tilted in order to remove it from the slide. If you look behind that relief towards the rear of the hole through which the barrel passes, you will see it fits the barrel tightly. That rear area of the hole controls the barrel position from shot to shot. The hole will also look round from the inside of the slide looking forward. If you try to wiggle the barrel while it is properly positioned in the slide, you will detect little if any play. If the hole in the slide were egg-shaped all the way through, you would be able to push the barrel up and down. You cannot do that. Beretta did not design a flaw into the M92. There is nothing wrong with your M92. You have one of the finest pistols in the world. Enjoy.

I thought the same thing about my Sig 228 until I realized that the barrel needed some clearance when it "tipped up".
