I saw one in excellent but fired condition bring $600 just a few months ago.
I used to recruit for the NRA until they sold us down the river (again!) in Heller v. DC. See my auctions (if any) under username henryreilly

Not as much as you would think.

Not as much as this? Auction #122817103 I emailed this guy to see if the box was wrong since he stated it was an early 1960 model but the box has serial number 103- which makes it 1982 and he replied the listing was wrong that it is in fact the 1982 model. If the serial number would have been #1 I would have bought it, but no luck. I'd still like to buy it but think that price is whacky.

If you are talking about a 77/44 bolt action, I saw one on this site go for $700 plus, as new no box.

Take a close look at the loading area (pic #3). The scuff marks on the release/ramp suggest it's been loaded and fired. The price is out of line IMHO.

If I had it, I'd ask about $1000 less than the auction price of $1699.

I usually lay off the postings about auctions, I think the moderators & GB posting rules tend to discourage postings about auctions. But any price issue really isn't the concern, the poster lists the gun as being C & R eligible when, as a much later produced gun, it is not. Mailing the gun directly to a C & R holder (Type 03 FFL) would definitely be a no go.

I just looked at the auction...the guy is a shady seller...if he has it listed as a 60's gun and it is an 82 to start with. And his starting bid and buy now...he is hoping someone buys into the 1960's NIB part of it. I did not see any gold plating or inlays on it, so yes...he is not only in left field, he is out of the park.

When he emailed me back he stated he was going to change the listing to a 1982 model. If he does this then he should take away the C & R, serial number under 5000 part of it too, and drastically reduce the price. But with only a day and a half left it will probably remain an illegitiment auction and the asking price will remain the same. I wish Tallcharlie had one, I'd buy it in a heartbeat at that price.
