Remington works, Ilion NY USA. Patent dates december-7-1901, september-3-1902, june-12-1902. thanks for any info in advance.

Well I will tell you that its a great gun. Remington bought a production license from John Browning and Fabrique Nationale of Belgium to use the Browning design, known as the Browning Auto 5, and sell it in America. The gun was originally offered to Winchester, but when Browning wanted a percentage of every gun instead of a lump sum, Winchester walked away. Browning went to FN who bought it, and produced it. Remington, interested in getting American market share approached and bought the license.

So did Savage as the Savage 720. Winchester ended up with the 1911 "widowmaker" auto loader that was so bad and dangerous that when you sent it in for repair, they sent a Model 1912 pump back to you.
