Which bore sighter is the most accurate.Too many choices, and I'm sure there are some to avoid.

I've had good luck with the LaserLyte bore sighters. The different sized ends allow a good fit in the bore. It will get you on paper anyhow. Just remember to remove it before firing any live rounds (don't ask me how I know this). Just remember that after you bore sight you still need to fine tune with actual firing of live rounds. Once again, be sure to remove bore sighter first! And Oh, don't forget to remove the bore sighter before firing live rounds!

I am sure you will get many different opinions but here is mine and the reason . all the ones I have seen that look like a cartridge will get you ON Paper but that is it and if you use one and then remove and replace it 180 degrees different in up or down the the red dot will not repeat. from where it was the last time . That is why I like the kind that has a spud for each caliber and when you look through the scope you see a grid . I first use this adjusted to get on paper Then I do a final adjustment with live ammo once I get the true scope zero this will vary with the grid because of different height rings one inch vs 30 MM scope etc. BUT once you get the true zero reinstall the bore sighter and make a record of how many hash marks on the grid you are off both in windage and elevation . At a later date if you bump /drop the rifle go back to your home you can look at your notes to see if the crosshairs still line up the same on the grid. Now when you go on that once in a lifetime hunt you don't need to zero the gun when you arrive after shipping by airline etc just compare with your notes. with the boresighter you packed in your luggage[^]

I like the Leupold Zero Point magnetic illuminated bore sighter. Sold my old one with the spuds.

    SNIPERXX,

If you are asking about bolt action rifles, you were born with the best bore sighters available, your eyeballs. Or as one of the members refers to them, a Mark I Eyeball.

It's fast and easy to sand bag your rifle, pull the bolt and check the alignment of the scope with the bore by simply using your eyes and something as a sight aid such as a dot on a piece of paper. Peel and stick dots from the office supply store are cheap and work fine. Make sure that the scope adjustments are in the center of the ranges and adjust the scope with the mount first to maximize the range of adjustments left in the scope. Use the adjustments for windage and elevation for the fine corrections.

When you have the scope picture justified to the bore picture, shoot one shot from a stable position. If the shot is not dead center, shift the rifle so that the scope view is on the bullet hole and change the scope adjustments to center the reticle on the bullseye. No extra tools or toys.

There are a couple of dozen posts on this same topic that are viewable by using the search feature. There are many opinions expressed and brands discussed.

    Best.
