AR-10 mags

Are the mags for AR-10's interchangeable, as Armalite and DPMS. Also, why does DPMS list there's at 19 rounds. Do you load them to 20 and have 19 in mag and one in the chamber or is it 19 absolutely no more. Thanks.

What brand of AR-10 does the Magpul new 7.62 mag fit.

    The Armalite AR-10
The DPMS LR-308 or LR(R-25 as well?)
    The Rock River LAR-8

The web site says MK10/M110 and M118LR. Also a compent on SR25 type rifles.

Also, Armalite uses modified M14/M1a mags, RR uses FAL mags, DPMS proprietary?

DPMS "AR 10" mags will not fit the Armalite, nor will Armalite fit DPMS. I have a POF lower, DPMS upper and use the DPMS mags, my friend has an Armalite - uses different mags. I believe Armalite mags are modified M1A mags, they look so based on checking out my own M1A stuff.

I bought my mags from Fulton Armory - they have their own "Titan" named AR - and although they're advertised as 9 rounds they'll hold 10. Can't speak to the 19s, ordered them last year and they're sitting in Oregon - the state of CA has a little objection to anything new over 10. [:(]

The original AR10 1950's 1960's production, DPMS, POF, Stoner SR25 OR Knights AR10's use the original waffle style Armalite mags or the DPMS mags. New production Armalites and Eagle Arms use the modified M-14 mags. Some where in all this somebody was supposed to be using FNFAL mags as these were so plentiful and keep the costs of mags down.

I always load one less so the magazine is sure to hit home every time with a closed bolt.

I think that's Rock River Arms. So - why the heck all the different mag set ups? Were the computer geeks spreading their wings with all this magazine noncompatability? [}:)] Glad regular AR 15s are one size fits all.

I had heard that at one time not sure if they still do you could send you M1A mags to Arm.. and they would send you a modified mags for free.

I think a lot of it came out of the 1994 AWB. Many of these guns hit the market about that time. So in an effort to keep mags affordable and have a good source for them.

I have several pre-ban Ar-10 mags. Some hold 19rds and some hold 20rds.

Good point - during the ban, design a gun to function with magazines already manufactured because new ones must be 10 rounds or fewer. That makes sense.
