According to the distributor, Talo, 5000 of these were produced, I believe from 2006-2007.

To be clear, these were NEVER used by the US Olympic shooting team. Edit; they do have match triggers.

So while these are certainly nice guns, personally, I consider calling these the "US shooter team" rifle to be a bit deceptive because it implies something that isn't true. These are "race guns", they aren't really competitive Olympic type bullseye guns.

If you just want a "shooter" like this you can build a functionally identical 10/22 yourself from drop-in aftermarket parts for similar cost:

As a frame of reference, the cost breaks down as so:

Barracuda stock: $180 (finished), $130 unfinished.

Drop in Pro-custom match trigger with aftertravel adj: $75

Stainless bull barrel: $110-190 (+/- depending on which one you like).

Ruger 10/22 rifle: $250 NIB, less used, and all you really need is the receiver/action since you are replacing the trigger, stock, and barrel. You can also made back a little bit of the money you spend on a new/used gun by selling off the parts you don't need (eg the barrel, etc).

Given that the Shooting Team rifles are auctioning for $450-500, you're not going to save a lot of money building one yourself, though it is possible to save some, and of course you will end up with something exactly the way you want it (eg stock color, barrel length and configuration, etc).

In any case, since the gun has no sights, if you actually want to shoot the thing, you have to add in the cost of a scope base, rings, and a scope!
