Marlin 336 "RC"?

I own a Marlin 336 "RC" - see photo. In all my reference material I cannot find any mention of "RC." Other Marlin 336s have a variety of letters as part of the Model Name. What does "RC" stand for? R = "Ranch" maybe? C = "Carbine" maybe?
