Encore questions

I have a couple questions for Encore owners, and gunsmiths, as I own 2 of them.
1) Why doesnt anyone offer Encore barrels in calibers such as the ultra mags and bigger cartridges such as the 416 remington, 458 win mag etc.? Some of these cartridges are loaded to lower CUP than chamberings they do offer. Can one have a 416 rigby barrel rechambered in 416 mag or a 45-70 barrel rechambered in 458 win mag or lott?
2)Is it possible to have an auto ejector installed on an Encore barrel such as youd find on a shotgun or a Ruger no.1? Input is appreciated.

I'm only moderately into the T/Cs (3 frames and about 20 barrels) but I've been told that a combination of chamber pressure & a cartridge base's surface area can create too much rearward pressure on the face of the break open action pistol. As a result, frame stretching from the pressure can be an issue. The WSM cartridges are a good example of this combination as are the RUMs - big tail end and alot of rearward thrust.
There are companies that will chamber in the WSM, but supposedly the proviso is they must be downloaded.
BTW, MGM does excellent work. I have about 4 or their barrels including a 375 H & H handgun barrel. Great guys to deal with.
I cant imagine a 458 win mag in a pistol configuration. My encores are all in rifle form, trust me when I say an unported 416 rigby is a little hard on the shoulder as it is!
I have a CZ 550 in 416 Rigby, can't imagine letting loose a 400 grain slug in an Encore rifle.
I just got into the rifle aspect of Encores. Even with 24" barrels they are darn short and very light. And I think having the bore line fairly high above the stock dishes out a little more "rock & roll" than most guns. I have a 25/35 barrel and a 7-08 - the light stuff works for me. But on the handguns, the bigger the better - reloading gets a 300 JHP out of a 45/70 at 2,100 fps, such a blast. Just goes to show, a very versatile platform.
I think the best route for the really questionable stuff is a Ruger #1.

I have noted some are refering to these calibers in a pistol. I also note you never mentioned a pistol barrel, so for the sake of clarity let us propose you are looking for a rifle barrel.
I have a Encore in 375H&H magnum. mrbruce did and AWESOME job in putting a Harrels muzzle brake on it. The 375 was a handful with full charges before the muzzle brake, but I still would shoot it a LOT. After mrbruce installed the brake, it kicks like a 30-06 with heavy bullets. MGM (Match Grade Machine) www.matchgrademachine.com should be very helpful in discussing caliber selection for the Encore with you.
If, by some strange stretch of the imagination, you decide to put a 458 Lott in a pistol length barrel and fire it. Make sure you have good high speed video recording your antics. We want to see someone insane enough to actually fire something like that on U-tube. [;)]

From a safety point of view, I don't think there is a difference between an Encore rifle or handgun configuration - of course from a sanity point of view, some handgun in rifle chamberings are foolish. For example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lzri8dn7p0
But there are some rifle chamberings known for strong recoil in rifle configuration that, when in a braked handgun (as opposed the the You Tube guy's gun that is now "breaked") do really well. The 350 Rem Mag is a good example (125 grain JHP @ 3,000 fps from a 15" bbl)as is the 375 Ruger. Overall though, I think the Encore does well in the efficient short cartridge, light bullet offerings such as 223, 260 Remington, 243 and such.

Funny you should ask. I just got off the phone with Mike Bellm. I was referred to him by TC.
A friend wanted to get a 300 Ultra Mag bbl for his TC.
Well long story short. The TC can handle the 'push' by the case head of the belted mags (.532) but no larger with out damaging the frame. The larger case head of the Short and Ultra Mags just has to much punch for this platform.
If you were to get this done you would have to shoot reduced loads, thus nothing would be gained.
He did say the other rounds with the .532 case heads were doable. He does an integral muzzle brake if requested.
