s&w collection question

did S&W make a factory engraved nickel model 59 9mm , is this a custom shop order? also, same estate has S&W 27-2 357 w walnut case, S&W 25-5, S&W 27 target, 36 2", 15-4 nickel, 15-3 38cal, 14-4 6" target, and several other excellent condition firearms, the 59 has my attention but 1 at previous sale went for 2150, should factory letter accompany this 59? , was there 1 particular engraving? I am not a big S&W fan, no reason, but I own a CS40, but I am interested in 25, 27's and the 59, and if these are not in NIB condition i am going to pass, unfortunately there are no pics available to preview and only the word of the auctioneer himself, which he is being honest, or fibbing, to get more interest, after all I am traveling 4 hours to get there so he knows I am not coming down to buy a pellet pistol. But any factory engraved S&W would look nice in my collection, thanks for any input and thanks to all the Veterans, past and present for giving us our rights and freedoms

go to sticky on serial numbers. (top of experts forum column)

Listed are contacts for most all manufacturers.

I had occasion to call the folks at S&W just today and they were very helpful

No engraved M59 was ever made as a regular production gun; it's either a factory Special Order or aftermarket item. Factory engraved guns are priced according to the style of engraving, percent of coverage, & special markings & inlays. The original shipping carton, with appropriate label should accompany the gun, & hopefully the original factory order form. I would expect the gun to be unfired AND unhandled if I were paying a high price.

A smart seller would obtain a factory letter to get top dollar. A smarter buyer would condition the sale upon being able to get such a letter if not included by the seller.
