I have a Herters XK3 in 308 and was told it was a FN action and I want to change it to a 22-250. How do I tell if it is actually a FN ? Is there some place to find a barrel already turned and blued that will fit this action?
I have googled it and tried brownells and midway and yes numrich but not sure I am looking for the right thing.Anybody have a barrel for this, if pics needed I can do that....gumby

    gumbydamnit,

They are a close copy of The FN Mauser De Luxe and were termed to be "a modified, improved Mauser action". This major difference was that the older style ejector/bolt stop box was replaced by a new, flatter design.

The time frame was around 1966 and the actions were marked "Made in Germany". In essence, you won't find a reference to Fabrique Nationale.

Finding a fully finished barrel is a slight problem as most are sold needing a final headspace adjustment. Finding one that's already blue is a lot harder if not impossible. Most Chrome Moly barrels are sold 'in-the-white' so that the gunsmith can do any final fitting (headspace) and provide the degree of polish or even a matte finish as required by the customer. There might be some exceptions as usual but I don't know of any because of the headspace issue.

    Best.

Try E.R.Shaw not a match grade barrel but I have had some that shot like a match grade and others that were O.K. for hunting . They used to do a special on installing on your Mauser action.
