punt guns

How often do you guys ever see true punt guns for sale. I am trying to find one (in bad to unworkable condition) to put on display. Also I am wondering if anyone does any replecations of these guns or how hard it would be to make a replica of the most simple form of punt gun that was used in the market hunting days. I am specificly talking about the form of punt gun that was lashed to a skiff. Any info would be appreciated.

Have seen two different types of punt guns. One was a VERY large bore cartridge arm- 4 guage. The other was really a small cannon- percussion cap 2 bore.
For the muzzle loader, no problem. But for the cartridge arm, do some checking with the BATFE. That is large enough that they MAY class it as a destructive device (Class III).
You might also check with your state game dept if you are anywhere close to where market hunters used to operate. IIRC, the Virginia Dept of Game & Inland Fisheries used to have a couple of punt guns that they would take out for displays at the local fireman's parade sort of thing. While they are undoubtedly not for sale, they may be able to point you in the right direction.
Or this type?
The double barrel one has a 1 1/2" bore, is 9' long and weighs in at 230 pounds. Normal loading is 3oz of BP and 16oz of shot, with a maximum load of 4oz BP and 20oz shot
The single barrel ones could launch up to 2lb of shot, and "only" weighed 170lb
BTW, the 4ga is considered a shoulder fired "sporting" weapon, while true punt guns are fixed (trunnion) mounted "market hunting" weapons in the 1 1/8 to 1 1/2" range
