trenchgun question

Was the heatshield/bayonet lug for the 1897 Winchester their own design or was the same unit used on other models such as the Stevens, Savage, Remington etc.did each manufactuer produce their own or was it a subcontract part

    Winchester designed and patented the early style 6-row heatshields.

    Thank you Bert.the reason I ask is that it looks like the same type of shield is used on other models. Can you or anyone on this forum suggest the best book on the subject covering all the diffrent Mfgs. of trench gun models
