Nightforce Scope Question..........

Why would you want both target turrets and a reticle like the Nightforce NP-R2 on a scope? I could see using the target turrets to "count clicks" for a known distance.........but why have this "distance ranging" reticle in the same scope also?

IMHO ego trip on the part of some buyers to have a Nightforce.

I have both on some of my scopes.

Ranging reticles can be used to make quick, reasonably accurate shots. Ranging reticles are nothing more then a semi measured holdover. Even with ranging reticles they are not a precise as being able to dial in the exact number or clicks when you have the time and known (or estimated) range.

All the big Nightforce scopes have target knobs no matter what the reticule is...
Not much can be done about that..
Some folks have a range finder along with them and some don't.

With the NightForce NXS scopes you have a choice of what reticle you want. They even have one that can be used for range finding. There is a difference between range finding and range hold over. The clicks in a scope let one correct for 1/4 or 1/8 MOA, while the NP-R2 reticle can be used for inbetween, and quick change of wind speed. There are many reasons why.

    Perry...

no more ego than older S&W's.

If you have ever seen the difference between a Leupold Mk4 LRT, and a NightForce NXS, you would know it is not EGO.

R2 is used to range the target, the turrets are for adjusting zero to the target. The same reason mil-dots were developed for the military, but IMHO the MOA reticles are easier to use and faster.

The R2 reticle has 2moa spacing, when on 22x in mine, so you must remember to set it to 22x for ranging as well as for using the holdover points.

ditto tsr1965, the NXS blows the MK IV away. I used someone's NXS once,...went home and listed all 3 of my MK IV's for sale. They made way for the NXS's and I have been completely satisfied. Walk the line at a BR match, the Nightforce is slowly taking over as the most widely used glass.
