single base vs double base

What are the pluses and minuses of double base vs single base powders? I have heard double base burns hotter and therefore shoots the barrel out sooner? True?

Single base powders are nitro-cellulose with deterrent coatings and grain size used to control burn rates. Double based powders contain nitro-glycerine along with nitro-cellulose for increased energy. Burn rates are also controlled by deterrent coating. Plasma temps are higher for double based powders but the actual difference in barrel throat life is up for debate.

throat life depends more on proper cleaning methods and cooling times without long strings of fire, moreso than powder base type. The military has tested 308 barrels that still held 1/2moa with 8000+ rnds through them.
