I have a Winchester Model 62 serial # 1236**A. Do all 62's have an "A" after the serial #? If not, what does the "A" signify if anything?

No, not all Model Model 62s have the "A" after the serial number. The first 24,000+ do not have the "A". Those manufactured after circa serial number 24,000 will be found with the "A", and it signifies the change to the new bolt locking system that was instituted on May 12, 1935. The new "improved" locking system resulted in the bolt opening on the initial rearward movement of the breeh bolt.
