Winchester model 70 - featherweight butt plate

I need to know what correct butt plate will go on my pre 64 model 70 featherweight. The butt was cut down at one time, a recoil pad was added, so I couldn't tell if it had a metal plate (and spur) like most other pre 64 model 70's or if it had an aluminum plate.

The appx size I need is 4 7/8" long, 1 3/4" at widest point and the screw holes are 3 1/16 center to center (the top hole is located about 3/4" from the edge, bottom hole is about 1 1/4" from bottom edge)

Can anyone direct me to which plate may be proper suited for my 70? Thanks!

What is the serial number range of your Model 70? That will help identify the butt plate that was standard for the time.

    Hello,

1956 is correct for the DOM. Also, Roger Rule's book "The Rifleman's Rifle" confirms that the standard Featherweight buttplate at that time was aluminum with the slight protrusion at the heel (top). I have a Featherweight in the 365,000 range and it has the same buttplate.

The buttplates changed to the composition type in 1959.

You can try the "Want Adds" here on the Forums; you can also try searching the auction side; also, they come up on eBay occasionally, so you might want to search there.

If I find another source, I'll update this thread with the information and a link if applicable.
