$ 5,000 Arsenal

Think of some circumstance such as all of your guns were destroyed in a fire and the insurance company would only give you a reimbursement of $ 5,000. What would you buy to stock up a new arsenal? Include at least one shotgun, two rifles, one revolver, and one semi-auto pistol.I thought this topic would be interesting. I hope it will not be considered trite by the people in this forum.Thanks,WJR

    WJR-First, I think this belongs in the General Discussion forum, since there will probably be more than 10 responses.But you've posed a good, tough question.I'd get an AR-15 ($900), mags ($300), a Ruger 10/22 ($150), mags and scope ($200), a Rem. 700 in .30-06 ($600), scope ($400), and another Steven SxS 12 ga. ($200).Then add in a 1911 ($900), a couple older S&W revolvers (.357 and a .38) ($400), a Ruger .22 ($250), and finally I'd get a pair of Ruger Vacaros in .45 Colt/.45 ACP ($700).That should come to $5K. I'd add a Marlin Cowboy rifle in .45 Colt later, as well.

    Well I carry a $10,000.00 ryder on my homeowners for the guns so this isn't really something I've thought about. But lets give it a try.Shotgun would be another L.C. Smith field grade 12 ga. Figure $600.00 if I shopped around.Rifle #1 Would be a 1875 sharps in 32-40 Gun Digest says $910.00 But I'll be a realist and say $1,200.00Rifle #2 would be a NEF .45-70 with extra barrels in .22 hornet and 30-30. Guess cost would be $350.00 with the extra barrels.Semi Auto pistol would be a blue matte finish .45 Kimber compact. so about $750.00 Revolver would be a stainless Ruger single six .22 I've seen them used for around $200.00 but we'll be realists again and say $250.00I'd then add a CZ 452 American classic .22 add a scope we've got about $400.00That leaves me about $1450.00 to buy the fire proof safe I should have had to begin with.WOODS

    fisrt off, spend about $1200-$1500 on a fireproof safe. Then buy a benelli shotgun, a Remington sendero in a magnum caliber, a light/short rifle (a-bolt or model 7) in a standard caliber such as 7mm-08 or 308. Next buy a Ruger super redhawk in .44 mag or 454 casull for big game and a Sig p226 or any other for hi-capacity shhoting/home defense. Plus the little lady can handle the Sig if need be. This should cover all your bases for any hunt.

    Probably never get to own another gun if this place goes "up in smoke" due to the compactness of my neighborhood and the amount of mil-surp ammo I have. Already told my neighbors to run if it happens!! Guess the basement would be the best place to store it.(heat rises,right?) Starride

    This may be difficult because lots of the guns I might choose would have to be found used because they don't make them anymore. 1. Browning BLR 81 steel receiver in 308win. with a Leupold 2x7 Vari-X II scope; price approx. 700 dollars.2. Winchester Mod. 23 side X side shot gun. 12ga.Could cost as much as 1200 dollars or more. I paid 950.00 for mine but I was lucky.3. Wilson Combat 1911 45Acp. price around 2000 dollars including some extra clips.4. Winchester or Browning 22 rimfire leveraction used price 300.005. Ruger single six. 22cal. 300.006. Smith and Wesson mod. 60, 38special. used price 250 to 300.00 I still have some holes left to fill but I could get by with this I guess. I might settle for a Remington Rand 45 auto instead of the Wilson and get another pistol like a Smith 44mag. Mountain gun or Ruger Blackhawk and also another big game rifle or some kind.

    Thank you for the replies. They have been fascinating and enlightening, especially when looking at the recurring choices versus the unusual choices.Again, thanks.WJR
