How would you rate the fit finish and quality, accuracy of a Howa 1500 in blue or SS in Synthetic verses a Savage Weather Warrior or a Winchester mod. 70 sporter in syn/ss. in same barrel lengths in 30-06Are these guns made under license from Weatherby or a knock off. Are the bolt handles on piece or silver soder on.thanks for the help

The Howa is a Japanese made action/rifle that has been manufactured for Weatherby and Marlin, if memory serves, under those names. The one made for Weatherby was the Vanguard, but it is the Howa 1500. It is a quality peice of work with some nice design features. I bought a blued barreled action, and glass bedded it on a Boyds JRS Classic stock. I get tighter groups at 100 yrds. with it, than with my Rem 700. Can't tell you about the stocks.I should add, mine is in .308, but I see no reason why caliber would make a difference in fit, finish or quality. If you care, the Howa will certainly not hold value like Remington, but you can put together a fine shooter comparatively inexpensively [This message has been edited by He Dog (edited 11-01-2001).][This message has been edited by He Dog (edited 11-01-2001).]

Not Marlin. Smith & Wesson marketed the Howa as the S&W 1500, and Mossberg as the Mossberg 1500. Weatherby as the Vanguard.Marlin's centerfire bolt rifle, the MR-7, was completely different.

thanks you both of you guys for the info, so the Howa is as or more accurate with the remington 700. If I keep it for 25 yrs the value wouldn't matter to me as long as I got a reliable accurate shooter.

I have the S&W that was made by Howa. It is in 30.06, and is the best gun for the money I've ever bought. Very, very nice finish and VERY accurate. I will buy another if this one ever wears out.

Is the Howa in SS as good or better quality than the Savage 116 FSAK in 30-06 nad is the bolt take down like the winchester or does it require tools.
