Liteweight hunting/target rig

Need opinion on a liteweight hunting/target rig. Will start with a Rem 700 youth (20 in bbl) in .308, replace factory youth stock with an H-S Precision Pro 2000 stock, and the trigger worked. This would be for hunting WT/mule deer, antilope, maybe elk, and occasional targets not more than 500 yds. Reasoning: .308 stability/accuracy/versatility, Youth bbl for rigidity and reduce weight, Stock for accuracy and durability. Might build a second one in .243 for WT deer and smaller game.

raskil, Might want to consider the 7mm-08. flatter than the .308 and faster. Balisticaly capable of taking 400lb animal at 400 yds. EXTREMELY accurate and mild recoil. Love mine to death. I have a Browning a-bolt medallion with a 22 inch barrel. My wife found it for me when I was still in college, it was my first high powered rifle. I have since gotten into the custom stuff but stll won't let this one go. Shoots too well. 700 rem is always a good choice, I have 5, 4 of which are custom off of the 700 actions.
