Price for used Bulagarian AK?

I was just offered a barely used Bulgarian AK with the wooden furniture and 2 mags. The interior seems to be extremely clean, and the bore in pristine condition. Externally, the wood has some dings from handling (albeit minimal) and the receiver has no scrapes or scratches on it whatsoever. Also, no muzzlebrake or bayonet lug. According to the owner, it has less than 500rds through it(but then again, they all say that). Would this be a good deal for $385 out the door? There is also a 30 day layaway on it if needed.Any input will be greatly appreciated.thanks,-Smooth

    I'm no expert, but I'd offer him $325. $350 if your REALLY want this particular gun. Around here you can pick up a new SAR-1 for around $360.-Marcus

    Smooth,You didn't say, so I'm assuming that it is a milled reciever Bulgarian AK? If so I would snatch it up in a heart beat!If it was a stamped (none of the Bulgarian AK's are stamped, are they?) its a still a fair price as they are about the best quality AK (next to the Hungarian) on the market, and worth the extra $$$!

    Kid, It does have a milled receiver on it and the red bulgarian furniture. I was having second thoughts because I got used to seeing the synthetic stock bulgarian's with muzzlebrakes for years. To be honest, this is the first one that I have seen with wood on it so I'm a little precautious.thanks,-Smooth

    The SLR-95 doesn't have a muzzel break, and originally had black plastic furniture, its likely that someone changed it for a pistolgrip & butt, over the thumbhole, possiable that it may even be an American made wood ... at any rate stocks are cheap now, when the American made woods came out they were $279+ ... you can still get into in cheap enough and buy another stock if you want ... I saw a SLR-95 in ShotGun News NIB, $699 I think at One-Eyed Jacks ... I think someone even has American made black plastic for $39.95 I think, saw it somewhere, can't remember where though ...

    Kid, It's not an SLR95...It says SA93 on the milled receiver. According to the original owner(who also happens to own the pawnshop) the furniture is original, and that it was bought just shortly after the ban(9/94). I'm thinking that this might be a predecessor to the SLR95. Also, the furniture is a thumbhole stock and painted in a dark shade of red not varnished/stained. I already put $100 down and I have 30 days to make a payment in any amount untill I pay it off...seems like a good deal.-Smooth[This message has been edited by smooth_operator (edited 11-03-2001).]

    Smooth,I think you've made a great purchase at a great price! If you ever decide to sell it you will always be able to get your investment back, probably with intrest. I've owned more than my share of AK's and the Bulgarian is top shelf as AK's go. If you want to get the "Real" AK look (pistol grip) the U.S. made conversion parts kits are getting pretty cheap.

    Smooth,I was just thumbing through my new issue of Shotgun News and found the ad for American made stocks ... M.S.G. 515 Valencia Dr., Ste.-G Fullerton, CA. 92832 (714) 879-GRIP ... U.S. made 4 piece stock set for Bulgarian Milled receiver $39.95 ... they also have a special price for conversion that includes the stock set, hammer, dis-connector and trigger for $165 ... this allows you to use any imported mags without having to change the follower & floor plate to keep 100% legal (max 10 imported used for pistol grip conversion ... BATF B/S)
