Well...there are very few that would be considered somewhat comparable to a Bulgarian. For starters, the Hungarian manufactured AK's are supposedly built better(or so I'm told) and there's the Polytech Legend which is a milled receiver(china). Just recently I saw a regular polytech at a local pawnshop when I was buying my Bulgarian and from how they looked, whew! I never thought something that good could come out of China. Almost put my Bulgarian SA93 to shame. The only drawback to buying one of these two (Polytech/Hungarian) seems to be the unusually steep price that you will be spending on them; around $850/$1200 consecutively. On the subject of having a preban rifle...do you really need one? The only thing that would make any difference is the folding stock. I've tried several and honestly, I'm not too fond of them. But then again, its a matter of priorities. If you want one and can afford to blow the extra $$$ go ahead and get one. Right at this moment, I have a MAADI sitting in my closet, it's in the bottom of the AK barrel as far as everyone is concerned but it never jammed on me even when the receiver is sprayed with sand/dirt....for $350 with a drum, I say its worth it.BTW, you might want to get one soon cause they are no longer being imported and prices are going to skyrocket as soon as the supplies are purged.-Smooth

I ran out and bought my bulgarian slr-95 here in Ca. right before that damn ban, and have had nothing but good tales to come from it since. In my opinion it is at the top of the ak rifles, and if your like me and have to have the pre-ban, you better take the advice and buy quick. Like I tell my wife a pre-ban rifle in the closet is better then $$ in the bank, You can never go wrong. I am considering selling mine, if your interested send me an e-mail Clwner@aol.com.I Got all the must have toys to go with it, a shame not to have been able to use it though J/K
