Hi all, I ran across an ad for one of these kits in a catalog recently and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them. It sure looks cool in the picture, but am wondering if the barrel sleeve and sights are made of medal or plastic? Does it fit tightly and securely? Is it worth $149??

The ones I've seen were plastic or fiberglass ... never shot one so I cant comment on fit or function of that kit. I have shot the 10/22 bullpup kit guns though and as long as you were satisfied with hitting close to your target it was fun, I supose, with some practice you could be more profecient, but still felt cheap ... better as a display piece.

I have not seen one in person, but I believe Butler Creek was making one--I've never seen any "junk" with their name on it.(Personally I prefer "sleepers"--something like a MG-42 disguised as a Ruger 10/22 would be more to my liking!)

Friend bought one at a gun show (on the gun) -we ran several boxes of ammo through it and decided it was strictly for show but lots of fun with the hi-cap mags! Since then he has sold the plastic stock and bought an original Ruger wood stock for the gun. BTW-also had to buy sights as they had been removed to make the MG stock fit.

The idea of trying to make an innocuous 22 or any other firearm look like a machinegun for cosmetic purposes is a mistake as it feeds the anti-gun movement. Public awareness of this plus the availability of Ramline 50rd mags and handbooks on full auto conversion is what we all need to get serious liberal focus on banning more semiautos.

Interesting take and in some ways I agree with you. If it doesn't make it a better shooting gun, why waste the money. I initially bought a bullpup conversion many years ago for my Camp 9 'cause it made the gun look cool, but to my surprise, I like the way the gun handles and shoots much better now. To me, however, it's all about legality. There's a big difference between this conversion kit and full auto conversions. For one, the latter is illegal! The former, at least in my state, is not. As long as I'm not violating any local or federal laws by installing this or any other legal modifications to my guns, I won't worry about pandering to the anti-gun left and their ilk (who will always oppose my right to own any of my weapons anyway!). As long as I'm legal, I will also not worry about putting the rights of other gun owners at risk, as you are implying. It would certainly piss me off if I installed this, took it to the range and had some other gun owner reprimand me for putting his right to own a gun at risk!

I believe what we need is good press depicting firearms used seriously by gun owners in hunting, shooting sports, defense and collecting. To promote gun ownership showing guns as toys we frivolously doll up to appear more menacing, sounds frankly very immature and a mistake. It's a bad advertisement to the uncommitted who would like to assume serious, sober and responsible use of guns by gun owners. Public opinion is very important to the future of gun ownership as evidenced by the restrictions of the assault weapons ban that we thought would never happen.Dont wave a red flag in front of a bull. It might be legal but you could be dead right.

"good press"? I don't believe there is such a thing when it comes to guns. Mass media (news media) that reaches the most people is too biased (liberal!!). You're more apt to watch an article on the news about someone shooting someone else then you are to hear about some kid who reports a gun lying around because Eddie the Eagle taught them to tell an adult. Article that show gun ownership in a favorable light just don't get the circulation to the uncommitted as much as we'd like. I think you have the false pretense that dolling up a gun is going to sway someones opinion. I believe most people already have their mind made up as to their own feelings towards guns.

Amen. I refuse to feel that I have to apologize or justify to anyone, least of all the anti-gun left, that I own firearms. Yielding to this kind of pressure is dangerous. To me, it's tantamount to giving up a right that hasn't yet been taken away. For many of us, shooting is fun. 50-round clips are fun. Shooting guns that "look menacing" is fun. Call it immature if you want, I ain't afraid to admit it. As long as I'm legal, don't stand in the way of my fun!
