Savage 110 - Old vs New?

How do the older Savage 110's compare to the newer ones? I came across a Savage 110 in 270 with a checkered wood stock and ramp style rear fold down sight and a Weaver K4. The bolt doesn't look as big as the newer ones but it still has the barrel nut that looks like the new ones. This one has a 5 digit serial number 31XXX and the model is 110, no letter prefix or suffix. The trigger needs some work, but other than that, it's a solid rifle. Don't tell me to stay away from it, because I already gave 2 Benjamin Franklins for it; It's gotta be worth that!Roy
