5.45x39 vs. .223

I cannot find any ballists data on the 5.45x39. How do these compare, e.g., Velocity, Energy and drop? I'm also curious as to the length of a 5.56? *5.56x? Thanks.

    5.56 x 45. I don't have any ballistics for the 5.45 x 39.

    MP5.56x45 .223 rem I found ballistcs on all but 5.45 at http://www.hornady.com/html2/ballischart.html all I could find for 5.45x39 was on wolf amm page . It lists MV at 2886 ft/sec 60 grains they're at http://www.ssiintl.com/Calibers.htm wish I could have helped you more-Ralph

    As far as the energy factor goes, the 5.45x39 is a longer bullet that flexes as it strikes the target thereby creating a larger wound channel.

    Military loading of the 5.45x39 ctg is a 54gr bullet at 2950fps for a muzzle energy of 1045ft.lbs.. Ctg. overall length is 2.22" compared to 2.26" of the 5.56 NATO.The bullet is supposed to be very effectivebecause its' tip is hollow with the weight in the rear. On impact, the bullet is easily destabilized. The hollow nose deforms and the bullet tumbles, creating a much more serious wound than if it were a solid bullet.The mechanics of the effectiveness of the 5.56/223 is that above about 2900fps the bullets break in two at the cannelure as they start to tumble in the wound, creating horrendous wounds.To achieve this effect the range of the CAR16" barrelled AR15 is below 100 yds, the 20"barrel is better but with 14" barrelled M4s it never happens.
