Has anybody had any experience with the simmons 44mag, the tasco varmint/tactical or the bushnell sportchief or trophy scopes? If so, what do you think, which would you recommend, which would you run from - thanks!

Haven't had any experience with either the Bushnell or Tasco, but my experience with Simmons makes me want to run from them as fast as I can. Having said that, there will be those who will answer your query with exactly the opposite feelings. OK. Whatever. I only buy Shepherd scopes now. For my money, they are the best in the business.

When Bushnell introduced the "Trophy, and Scopechief" models, the names are their way of rating the scopes.Better tools than the other two. You will pay a little more, but the "bang for the buck" is better.

Bushnell by far is the best of the scopes you list. (2) Simmons (3) Tasco I've had 3 of these had to return 2 because of factory defects!

Have sold the Sportview(entry level dealer only model), Trophy, and Scope Chiefs.Hunted with the Scope Chief (best).Upgrade model from Scope Chief is 3000, r/b new 3200.A little more $ than Scope Chief. Has RainGuard on outer lenses.Back to orginal ?. Bushnell is better. [This message has been edited by Guns & Glass (edited 11-07-2001).]

DITTO. got two bushnell trophys. They are clearer and better than simmons 44mag. I can't imagine a tasco. I have seen some of their binocs and was not impressed. The trophy also has amber coated lenses for contrast.

My Simmons is a model 1028, 3X9 wideangle. When I took it to the range for the first time, I couldn't even hit a target at 100 yards. As I was looking at the gun the rear lens bell just fell off the scope, as the tube had broken clean off at that point. To be sure, Simmons replaced it without a fuss, but I have never trusted it since. It also has a lot of parallax that can't be adjusted out.

Bushnell is the best of these choices, but with optics you get what you pay for. You would likely be better served to save a little longer and go with Weaver Grand Slam or better still, a Nikon Monarch. Take a look at www.bearbasin.com

Try a Simmons Aetec or Expedition. Both are clearer and gather more light than my Leupold VarX2.Tasco is bottom of list .Bushnell iffy,if you get the right one it will stay set.
