Bi-pod for Rem 7600

Hi guys, just wanted to get your opinions. I have a Remington 7600 in 30-06. I've had it for around 25 years now and being as im not as steady as i used to be, was thinking of putting a bi-pod on it. Looks like i would have to use on that clamps directly to the barrel. So i got thinking.........how/if it would affect barrel harmonics/accuracy. If i used a rest, it was always on the fore stock and not directly on the barrel. I use it mostly for mid-range varmit hunting(usually woodchuck out to say 400 yards). Thanks in advance for your thoughts.
