Hi, James! Welcome to the GB forums!

Let's start..you asked for retail value. It's between $650.00 through $3,500. Now, we'll be more than happy to narrow down that price spread for you. Here's how:

We'll need good in-focus photos, featuring all the external stampings on the gun, as well as a photo of (after removal) the underside of the slide, and the top of the frame area.

Remember, we'll have to be able to see the stampings clearly for ourselves.

While you are putting the photos together, (instructions are on top of this forum under "Posting Photographs"), perhaps you can start us off by giving us the serial number? Thanks, Joe
    INFO ADDED:
James, if you would click on the link below, it will show you what type of photos (closeups) will be needed in order for us to perform a good evaluation. Here's the link: Good luck!

Hello Jamess Yes we need lots of more information . Good close-up in focus pictures from all angles would be a good start . Like most military firearms many 1911 and 1911A1 pistols were rebuilt many times However a very small % may be in their original issue condition . we need pictures of all marking on barrel slide and frame .After you take the gun apart also the type of checkering on safety slide stop pin and hammer as well as mainspring housing. If say you had a 1911 Serial number of less then 100 with all original parts and 99% original finish it would be worth 10's if not 100's of time the value of a mismatched Parts gun Remington slide, Colt frame, High Standard barrel that had 99% of arsenal or Bubba home parkerized finish . Just like collector cars I have a Ford in very good condition what is it worth does not tell us when it was built has it been wrecked does it have original engine and transmission ETC ETC ETC.

EDIT made by Colt 1944 = I have very nice 1974 Ford Value is between $400.00 and $2500.00 we still need detailed pictures

Edit as far as hiding serial numbers IMHO There is and never has been any reason unless you stole it. For those that do not understand no explanation is possible and for those that do understand no explanation is needed

I am curious.....in an anonymous environment such as this why do people insist on hiding the last few digits off the serial number of a weapon? Especially a weapon that is 40+ years old? Am I going to get your address from you serial number? steal your identity? buy an RV? I suppose its irrelevant as I was just browsing this forum, but if I am going to ask "experts" for assistance in valuing an item it wouldn't make sense to be secretive. Holy crap if they know the serial number of my 40+ yr old gun they might say its theirs!!!! Just a thought that irked me.....I appreciate the help of those her that share my interest in firearms..perhaps I am naive...
