And maybe for a little less money ???

Thank you.

Doug

I am purchasing a new Colt stainless Lightweight Commander in .38 Super. It has a 1911 style mainspring housing. I would like you to install a 1911A1 style mainspring housing, a grip safety with the "lump" on it, and a 5 pound trigger job. I am buying it from an out-of-state dealer. 1)Can I have it shipped directly to you, for the work ?? 2)How much would it cost ?? 3)What would be the turnaround time ?? Thank you, Doug Wilson ThunderboltRanch@gmail.com 503-8642453

Mr.Wilson

This is great to hear from you.

We can certainly do this work for you.

We will have to get you a new main spring housing. Do you want this checkered or plain.? The arched main spring housing that you would want comes in Stainless steel to match the alloy frame and is at a cost of $ 36.95

We would recommend that the new grip safety be the Ed brown style. This will give you the bump that you want.

This is order # 45073S Install ed brown grip safety with memory groove Cost $ 141.25.

For the trigger system that you want we would recommend the following.

Kit/part # CS24-7-365 5 piece trigger hammer set 5lb Cost $ 157.50

To install this into your firearm is order # 45011 and is at a cost of $ 49.50.

When we are done with the project we will test fire for function. This fee is $ 38.00

The above costs do not include the shipping.

Yes, you can have the firearm shipped to us.

We are looking forward to doing this project for you. We are booked ahead, at this time, about 10 ,ten months. If you wish to have this work done, call our toll free number, 1-800-448-1713 and place an order for the work that you want done. We will need your name, address, phone number and the list of the work that is to be done. A 50 % deposit. of the total of the work to be done is required to make a reservation, when you have made a reservation, you will receive a number for this work order. When your work order number rotates to the top of the list, C&S will contact you, instructions will be given to you on when to ship the firearm and what we recommend as best method of shipment. Once we receive your firearm, it will be placed in the order of receipt, we try to have the work done within (6) to (8) weeks.

If you have any further questions, please ask

Dan

Hello They do Good work BUT price and time involved to get the work done is IMHO is a deal breaker. I know insurance must be out of sight for gunsmith work but WOW and then a charge to test fire [V] . I will contact a member of the Pistol-Smiths guild I know and see if he is taking in any work & get back to you . I have done this type of work on my own pistols for 30+ years but I DO NOT work on other folks guns. I would look at Brownell's and see what these parts would cost this will give you an IDEA of what it should cost this job should take 4 hours tops and more like 2 hours.

Doug: You can easily change the mainspring housing and the grip safety in minutes yourself (go to CDNNINVESTMENTS.COM for the parts).

Most 1911 shooters do their own trigger jobs, but would not consider doing this for someone else due to liability issues. However, if you let everyone know "where" you are located I'm quite sure that there are many qualified gunsmiths that can do a 5 lb. trigger (should be well under $125 unless they use new parts, but for 5 lb. your parts should be OK)

Hopefully Perryshooter can give you some more info.

A 5 pound trigger is far from rocket science. A 2 pound is a different matter. The pistol may already have a good trigger.

I agree, their prices and lead times are outrageous. $38 to test fired something they already raped you on?

    Doug,

I know its across the country but you might try Pinnacle High Performance in Pa. I have no personal experience with them but I did correspond with them about some work I was considering and was pleased with thier response.

    Doug;
Those guys do excellant work, now if I had charges like that and a 10 month back log I might make it full time as a Smith...you are on the left coast I'm nestled in a holler on the right coast in Virginia.
What you propose is not rocket science, and a good smith on your side of the world should be able to do it. With a lil patience and a good manual, you could do it for cost of parts.
