Just thought some of you might like to know, I contacted Smith & Wesson regarding the fact that currently they are not marketing any of their traditional metal frame, double action, hammer fired, auto loading pistols and their response was that they will be introducing new versions of some of their traditional pistols soon...

Am I missing something? I was looking on the Smith & Wesson website today and I couldn't find any of their traditional, double action, metal frame, hammer fired semi-auto pistols. Did they just withdraw from that market in favor of polymer frame, striker fired Sigma, M&P and their new SD pistols and their 1911 copies only?

Sound like J frame revlovers. Flip the cylinder open and look at the frame inside the crane. There should be a model number stamped there unless they're real old.

They are PROBABLY both Smith model 36 revolvers, since that's the standard in blued and nickel-plated Smith and Wesson .38 special revolvers.

To check this, open up the cylinder.

On the front inside part of the gun, where the cylinder crane opens (that's the "doohickey" that holds the cylinder), you should see the model number inscribed.

If it looks like this and has a steel frame its a model 36. If it has a light weight frame, its a model 37.
