I have a Whitney, serial number "exp 5" with box, extra barrel, no book.
Box is kind of beat up. The plastic insert for the box is cracked.
I was wondering what kind of money it is worth.

I heard that Olympic Arms is going to reintroduce the Whitney Wolverine. Is it on the market yet? Anyone have any info or opinions on them?
    Thanks

IMHO trying to enhance an original gun that was shipped with one set of features"BLUED" to make it look like a Rare Model is akin to having a FAKE and thus you devalue what you started with. I never try to buy or sell any firearm that has been FAKED. I am old school and My reputation among my peers is of highest importance. JUST my $.02

I had one for a while, years ago. I believe the originals had aluminum alloy frames that were anodized. It's possible that a individual had removed the original anodized finish, and polished the aluminum?

I have an original and one of the new ones from Olympic Arms. I consider these to be one of the most innovative and nicest handling pistols ever made. For information there is no better source than the book, The Whitney Wolverine, by Antonio Taglienti (ex PA stae police-now dead). It has the complete design and production history . Hardbound, with great illustrations. Just a super book on a specific subject. Available from Amazon.
I believe the new polymer model from Olympic is destined to classic status as well. Buy one. Works fine with the right ammo - CCI MiniMags.

PS they were made in nickle - rare, did see one at a gun show , excellent , never fired with the $800 price to match.

As a long time collector, I have a real hard time believing somebody sprung 1500 bucks for this Wolverine.

    http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=184006454

Any way you slice it, no matter how great it looks, it's not factory original. The seller honestly describes how all the original finish was polished off, and replacement grips were installed. Most collectors shun like the plague, guns that have been refinished/reworked because the don't hold their resale value as compared to factory original guns. No matter how nice they look. My 2?.

Gentleman, the Whitney link for the gun sold $1500 was purchased and
resold, the seller is not the craftsman offering these fine guns. I also agree with the factory/collector issue. However, like a Shelby
Mustang vs a Mustang, there are customizing and improvements that can make a gun more desirable! I have two blue Whitney's, the books and TWO of the custom polished guns. They are breathtaking to look at
The craftsman that removes the old finish has NEVER mis-represented
anything he has done. He spends time like any gunsmith reworking the
guns finish to produce these fine examples. The factory Nickel guns
are rare, the last one sold at auction sold for $10,000 and just out of my reach how about yours? These are fine examples of a rare gun with a custom finish applied. No more,no less! Get one and judge for yourself, I love my two guns. Rick

The way your pontificating on this, seems that you might have a vested interest in these non factory original Wolverines? Get your facts straight no "custom finish" has been applied to these pistols. The original blue anodized finish has been polished off down to the base aluminum castings the pistol is constructed from. Nothing else has been done to these pistols. I still think it's ridiculous a non factory original pistol that has been reworked like this would sell for $1500, no matter how neat/pretty it looks.

To respond to the last entry, you are correct the finish or in this case the lack there of is not applied but polished up. The base aluminum is dull and unattractive. They are carefully worked to achieve their high polish finish. As for the other comments, I have no vested interest except the two guns I currently own, and on the other hand I can see why someone would pay $1000 for a beat up Winchester shotgun with no finish? But to each his own !!!
