I found a nice 24-3, and was curious since I had never seen one,I tried to find out some about them. Is it true they were only made in 1984, and only 7500 were made in all barrel lengths? How rare are the 3 inch barrel ones? Why would they make so few?

There where 5,000 3" model 24-3s manufactured 1983-1984 for Lew Horton, these do not have the pinned barrel.
There where 2,625 -3s manufactured with 4" barrels
    There where 4,875 -3s manufactured with 6 1/2" barrels
There are rumors of 5 & 5 1/2" barrels, but nothing confirmed.
The product code for the Lew Horton 3" guns is 100787.
    Hope this helps.

I think Lew and the boys have a lot special order/features production guns from several firms. Might be a real nice collector market niche in the future (heck might exist even now). 44 Special is enough gun if you can find the ammo. I would prefer a 44 mag. with the option to step down to a Special, but that's just me and I reload anyway.
