When it comes to shipping ammo, i believe you cannot ship ammo thru the U.S. mail. It must go thru UPS ground. The box must be marked ORDM correct? Are their any hidden fees i should know about? I want to ship four boxes of 5mm. Thank you.

I have heard horror stories about some clerks causing nightmares for private shippers.
So is that ammo ammo a buck round, then the hazmat fee will not be so bad per round.
Ammo CANNOT be mailed by US Mail. Brass, yes, ammo, no.
Up to 66 lbs of ammo can be shipped by UPS without HAZMAT fees.
List contents as "Cartridges, small arms".
The NEW label that replaced the ORM-D label looks like this- no text.

Ammo is no longer marked "ORDM" and hasn't for several years. You now use the label that looks like a half black and half white box. Most counters have them. Most contract shippers can't accept ammo have to take it to the actual UPS counter. Other than that no big deal.
If you live out in the sticks. Far from a UPS depot. You have to contact them, to have a special haz mat certified driver. Pick up the ammo. They won't pay any attention, when you try to explain. That ammo is not considered as hazardous, in small quantities. A pox on UPS.
I don't know if the above is still valid? As it was years ago, that I went through this aggravation with them. Not worth the hassle, IMHO. Unless the ammo, is worth big bucks to a collector.
DOT regulations apply.
