I recently bought a Hi Standard over under 22 magnum derringer. It does not have a model number on it.

The serial number is D10943. I am wondering when it was made. From what i could find out i think it was made between 1938 and 1942.

I was wondering if i could find the year.

I bought the gun to keep it in my pocket at home in case i ran across a snake. However when i received it i could not use it for that purpose because it was in to good of shape.

I think its a D-100.

Thanks for any help.

High Standard introduced their derringer in July 1962 in .22 LR and the magnum appeared in early 1963.

    The magnum versions are DM-101.

D 10,943 shipped as a catalog number 9194 with key serial number M 070,472 on 3/25/1977 to account number 1494554 on invoice number 81011-1 It went to assembly 11/11/19076 and was completed 11/15-1976.

Test fire it, to make sure it's functional. I had a couple of H-S derringers, in 22 Mag over they years. Very ammo sensitive. Only functioned reliability with Federal 22 Mag ammo. If I used anything other brands. Always had fail to fire malfunctions, with one of the barrels.

I have an early one in .22 mag, but never had a problem with any .22 mg ammo. .22LR, LR, or S should never be fired in a .22 mag HS, as misfires are likely & you will peen the chambers.

I now only shoot snakes that are venomous, but find that a small .38 spec revolver with shot caps is a better choice.
