What is the minimum recommended thickness for shotgun barrels both black powder and smokeless at the muzzle.

I'm sure it depends on the type of steel, heat treatment and length. That being said, I have seen some so thin that it was hard to get a bead mounted by drill and tapping.

One of my favorite shotguns as a kid was my buddy's Grandpa Browning Super Posted 20 gauge mag. He would say the barrels were so thin you could read the shot loading threw them.

I was speaking with Doug Turnbull at the Tulsa Gun Show this weekend. If anyone knows it would be him. He told me from the midpoint to the muzzle no thinner than .030.

If you don't have or haven't seen his Calendar you should get one. They are beautiful
