Kimber Stainless Gold Match II

I have never owned a 1911 but I have been wanting one and have just about made up my mind to buy the Kimber. I am not looking at this as a carry weapon (already got that covered) and I do not see competition shooting in my near future.

My question is before I spend $1,250 is there a better 1911 out there for roughly the same money?

Thanks in advance for any and all of your input.

series 70 Colt Government model or if you want adjustable sights get the Gold Cup. These don't have MIM/Cast/Plastic parts and all parts are made in the USA. Go with Quality[^] not BLING [V]"PRAISE THE HARD-BALL GUN"

EDITHello Austin you asked a valid question and in that you asked for opinion . I gave you mine and I know others did the same in good faith. I would like to take this time to explain that I dont think I fall into the arm Chair expert category as one of my sereies 70 Colts I have fired over 300,000 times including 32 National Championships. At Camp Perry. find me one other brand of 1911 Clones that have gained in value. End of story.

I have a Kimber Eclipse Custom II and love it. Keep an eye on the auction side and see if you can snag a used one. That's where I got mine. I bought mine used but unfired. IIRC, I had around $1100 into it after shipping and transfer. Good luck with whatever you choose. And welcome to the 1911 Family.

I would buy a used series 70 Colt saving several hundred dollars for ammo.

Thank you! I suppose I will have to keep looking.

Look at the Springfield TRP, I bought one a few months ago and it is the most accurate 1911 I have ever fired! Beats the Kimbers I used to own! Here is one for sale on the other side: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=197215263

I have a stainless gold match and its my favorite shooter. I've had more than a few 1911's ... but not as many as some here.

When Kimber came along I picked up a stainless classic and instantly was done with Colts (read done paying a smith to give a Colt a decent trigger ... done paying extra for all the features I wanted and done paying a smith to make the Colt reliable by polishing the ram, lowering and flairing the ejection port ...

I bought a few Kimbers in different configurations but then they turned into a "gun of the month" company ... and then a year or two later came out with the Kimber II so they could sell in Commiefornia ... haven't bought one since, but I do like the ones I have.

If you really desire something, you'll find a way ?
? otherwise, you'll find an excuse.

new to the 1911 game, i go with everyone else buy a 70 series colt.other then the collet bushing that needs to go,if has not been changed already-you would be hard pressed to find a better entry gun and its a colt. value ,quality, etc..take your time and enjoy, after you are bitten by the bug, avoid all the wanna be 1911's with bell and whistles and have a real pistolsmith build you a hand fitted all forged & tool steel ride and enjoy it for life.1911 rules!

I respectfully disagree with the fellows recomending Colts. After owning 11 different 1911s in the last 15 years, I would strongly recommend the Kimber and the Springfield. Features, quality / price = value. I may not be the most knowledgeable guy but I have fired over 65,000 rounds from 1911s which seperated me a little from some of the armchair experts.
