I.D. caliber of rifle

I bought an old rifle and the owner only said he "thought" it was a 6.5 There is no caliber marking on it. right behind front sight there are 3 markings 1-MBT 2-MB636 3-1930 Any Ideas out there ?

Do an image search for 6.5 rifle. Or post a picture. Both would be best.

There is a world of difference between caliber (bore) and chamber( cartridge it is chambered for).

The only safe way is to have a chamber cast done.

Show close clear pictures and somebody might be able to tell you the original caliber. Rebores and rebarrels to different calibers are possible, but let us see what you have.

What the gents right up there ^^^ have already said. There is also MORE than one 6.5 cartridge. When in doubt have a smith do a chamber casting with Cerro-Safe.

Have a chamber cast done. By a knowledgeable gunsmith. Only way you will know for sure, what cartridge the rifle is chambered for. Anything else is just speculation. That might cause serious injury, or fatality.
