My wife bought a "custom" Mauser 1909 Made in Berlin, Converted to 270 Win with a fancy safety and bolt Matching #'s and nice wood stock--$1100.(lets not talk about the gun dealer who ripped her off cause I could choke him)

Questions

1) Is this a 98 Mauser?
2) Is it a large ring?
3) why does it say Argentino?
4) anything else would be great.

I have the model 1909 Mauser made by Deutsche Waffen-UND MuntionsFabriken Berlin. The front sight has been removed and a Bushenll Sportview scope mounted on it. I would like to know what it is worth. matching serial number A8289, good condtion, thanks!

Well.....gasp....choke....aside from the price--it's a very fine gun. Mauser made many rifles for many different countries, but the 1909 Argentine was probably the best. Yes, it is a '98 large ring action. It says Argentino because it was made for Argentina, but Argentino is Spanish. Anything else......they were originally made in Germany, but later in Argentina by the Govt. arsenal. They were originally in 7.65x54 mm, so yours has been rebarrelled. After the cost shock wears off you'll probably like it a lot.

I have one that was converted to a .308 Norma Magnum with a fancy custom stock, etc. It is one hell of a rifle but the recoil is more than my Model 70 Winchester in 300 H&H caliber. Had to buy it as the seller couldn't handle the recoil and sold it to me for $200.
