Did Savage ever chamber the 99 in 38-55 and if so what years were they made? Thanks Steve

Sure, through the early 1920's I think.

    Mr. Cowboy,

    If my "Blue-Book" by S. P. Fjestad is correct, Savage made the 38-55 in the Mod. 1899 in the A, B, C, & F configurations from 1899 to 1922.

I can't find any referance to the later Mod. 99 in 38-55 but they did produce the Model 99-375 (brush gun) in the 375 Win. cal Mfg. 1980 only. The 375 Win is similar to the 38-55 but not interchangable.

My friend had one in 38-55 that was a takedown. I reloaded for it and it shot pretty good.

Idaho: Savage Factory book shows the 1899 chambered for the 38-55 starting 1903 but doesnt show when it was discontinued in this model. The Savage Factory catalog for 1920 doesnt show the 38-55 calibre so you probably have a spread of 17 years + or -.[:)][:)]

Yes they did. I have seen 1 in person, many years ago and still can't believe I didn't buy it. And I have seen 2 or 3 advertised in the Gunlist over the years. They do seem to be fairly rare.
